About Heat Pipe Technology

HEAT PIPE TECHNOLOGY, INC. (HPT) is the innovation leader in energy recovery and dehumidification systems for commercial applications around the globe. Employing the very latest in passive and pumped heat transfer technology, HPT designs and supplies the core systems to the world's leading commercial air handling equipment manufacturers.

HPT was founded in 1983 with a grant from the Department of Energy to research new uses for heat pipe technology. Heat pipes are passive-heat-transfer devices that were used in various applications ranging from orbiting satellites to the Alaskan Pipeline ground spikes. By applying the principle of heat pipes to air conditioning systems, efficiency was greatly enhanced in both dehumidification performance and energy utilization, with moisture removal increased by 30 to 50%.

With a staff of innovative mechanical engineers, HPT began installing patented Dehumidifier Heat Pipes in thousands of locations in the US and around the world. HPT's client list has grown to include many high-profile applications for such organizations as Walt Disney World, Kennedy Space Center, GE, Boeing, Pfizer, Marriott and Hilton hotels, the US military, and many of the US's top universities, as well as for hundreds of hospitals and schools.

HPT subsequently added energy recovery heat pipes for uses where reliability and zero-cross contamination are key. For uses in laboratories, hospitals, data centers, wastewater etc. HPT’s HRM range covers both side-by-side energy recovery and recovering heat between airstreams up to 120 ft apart, always passively.

In November of 2009, HPT was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway. With an infusion of capital, the company invested heavily in personnel, machinery, and software. All of these are components which lay the groundwork for growth for years to come.

In 2019 HPT supplemented the zero-cross-contamination capability with pumped water-glycol systems. The fluid is pumped between multiple exhaust and supply airstreams, and HPT’s proprietary coils and controls capability is helping customers get above industry average energy recovery.

Heat Pipe Technology, Inc. is recognized worldwide for our innovation and expertise. Our heat pipes and coils are made right here in Tampa, Florida; they save energy and dramatically reduce heating and cooling costs.

With a network of more than 70 representatives and licensees in North and South America, Europe, The Middle East, Asia, and Australia, HPT is a true global operator.
