Company Profile

new bldg.JPG (22062 bytes)Heat Pipe Technology, Inc. was founded by Mr. Khanh Dinh in 1983.With funding fromprivateinvestors and a grant from the Department of Energy, HPT began research on newuses for heat pipes, a passive heat transfer device previously used in various applications ranging from orbiting satellites to the Alaskan Pipeline ground spikes. By applying the principle of heat pipes to air conditioning systems, the dehumidification performance and efficiency was greatly enhanced, with moisture removal increased by 30 to 50%. However, to lower fabrication costs, research and development was required. This task was performed by HPT under a three-year, $500,000 contract with NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. The outcome of that effort is a new generation of heat pipes, costing one third the price of the aerospace heat pipes, while offering the same level of performance. This revolution shattered the price barrier that restricted the widespread implementation of heat pipes, yielding a short return on investment, often as little as a year.Projects to follow proved the technology could be applied on any scale, while being commercially viable and practical to implement. While humidity control became a widely recognized requirement for indoor air quality in all modern buildings, heat pipes were proving to be the most cost effective and efficient method of dehumidification in the world. Compared to other dehumidification technologies, HPT heat pipes can save up to 50% of the energy normally consumed.

With a staff of talented mechanical engineers and a specialized team of installation experts, HPT began installing patented Dehumidifier Heat Pipes in thousands of locations in the US and around the world. The client list grew to include many high profile customers such as Walt Disney World, Kennedy Space Center Marriott & Hilton hotels, US military, many of the US's top universities, and hundreds of schools.

Products for the Future

In addition to dehumidification, in 1996 HPT began producing the most advanced line of heat recovery heat pipes available for HVAC applications. Called the HRM Series, these air-to-air heat exchangers are incredibly efficient, and unlike many predecessors, require no mechanical "tilt" mechanism for all-season operation. The heat recovery heat pipes have been installed with tremendous results across the northern US and Canada and many parts of the world. The tremendous energy saving benefits of the HRM ensures a new level of recognition for HPT in the heat recovery marketplace.
